Hey Borked Reality crew! I’m back with an exciting update on a brand-new solo project: MR Asteroid! Inspired by the timeless arcade classic, I’m reimagining the thrill of dodging and blasting asteroids in an immersive Mixed Reality experience.
Why Make MR Asteroid?
I’ve always been fascinated by how classic games can be transformed with modern technology. The idea behind MR Asteroid is simple: take the core gameplay loop we all love—avoiding obstacles and racking up points—and drop it into your physical space. The goal is to blend fast-paced arcade action with interactive Mixed Reality elements to create something familiar yet entirely new.
Key Features I’m Working On
- Dynamic Mixed Reality Gameplay: Asteroids and debris dynamically spawn in your real-world environment, making each play session unpredictable.
- Classic Arcade Controls: Staying true to the original arcade feel, I’m focusing on straightforward, responsive controls for an authentic experience.
- Power-Ups and Upgrades: Classic games thrived on simple mechanics with strategic depth, so I’m adding collectible power-ups and ship upgrades to keep things exciting.
Current Challenges
- Spatial Mapping: Ensuring that asteroids interact naturally with the physical environment has been tricky. Fine-tuning spatial awareness is a top priority.
- Performance Optimization: Smooth gameplay is crucial for action games, so I’m actively working on maintaining consistent performance across devices.
What’s Next?
- Refining Enemy AI: I want asteroids and hazards to behave unpredictably but fairly.
